Ms. Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol, the diligent Minister of Tourism and Sports, conveyed that the approval by the Prime Minister and Finance Minister, H.E. Mr. Srettha Thavisin, for the compensation payments signifies a pivotal moment in Thailand’s tourism narrative. This “Assistance Scheme for Foreign Tourist Injury and Casualty” is a clear indicator of the government’s proactive stance on enhancing tourist safety, aiming to cultivate an environment where travellers can explore the wonders of Thailand with peace of mind.

Eligibility for this safety net is straightforward, ensuring a broad umbrella of protection. Foreign tourists holding valid passports and visiting Thailand for leisure between January 1 and August 31, 2024, with a tourist visa fall under the ambit of this scheme. It’s a clear signal that Thailand values every visitor, striving to envelop them in a safety net woven with care and foresight.

Establishing the “Thailand Traveller Safety” (TTS) system is another stride towards digitalizing and streamlining access to this protection. By registering online, tourists can swiftly secure their safety blanket, ensuring that a robust safety protocol backs their adventures in Thailand.

Integral to this endeavour is the proposed establishment of a Tourist Emergency Medical Assistance Centre (TEMAC), a lighthouse guiding distressed tourists towards immediate and efficient medical assistance. In collaboration with the MOTS’s Tourist Assistance Center and emergency hotlines, this centre epitomizes the seamless integration of services designed to ensure that help is always a call away.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Saksira Pheuk-um, a stalwart of the Tourist Police, emphasized the multifaceted approach to tourist safety. From strict law enforcement to technology-driven initiatives like the Smart Safety Zone project, the Tourist Police are at the vanguard, ensuring that Thailand’s guests enjoy their stay without a shadow of worry.

This groundbreaking initiative is not just a policy; it’s a promise from the heart of Thailand to its visitors—a promise of safety, care, and an unforgettable journey within its borders. As Thailand opens its doors wider to the world, it does so with the assurance that every visitor is cherished, protected, and invited to explore the myriad wonders of this beautiful land with confidence and peace of mind.
