The Green Roof Project for Friends in Need (of “PA”) Volunteers Foundation is confirmed to Continue for Another Three Years

Tetra Pak, the world’s leading food processing and packaging solutions company, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to extend the “Green Roof Project for Friends in Need (of “PA”) Volunteers Foundation” for another three years.  The project organises the collection and recycling of beverage cartons into corrugated roofing sheets, which are then used to construct homes and shelters for natural disaster victims and other needy communities nationwide. The initiative is now confirmed for the next stage which will last from July 2019 to June 2022, taking the Green Roof project into its second decade next year.

Tetra Pak launched the “Green Roof Project” in June 2010, in partnership with “Friends in Need (of “PA”) Volunteers Foundation”, Thai Red Cross, and Big C Supercenter Public Company Limited. The fourth partner, TV 360 degree, joined the project in 2015. In this project, Tetra Pak (Thailand) Limited, has also collaborated with the Foundation’s working networks and other partners including Beverage Carton Recycling Center by Fiber Pattana, and the Department of Environmental Quality Promotion of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. The “Green Roof Project for Friends in Need (of “PA”) Volunteers Foundation” plays a major role in proper carton waste management and recycling in Thailand. The initiative reinforces Tetra Pak’s commitment to sustainable environmental management by encouraging collaboration among public and private organisations to contribute to a better environment. It also furthers efforts to build awareness on the importance of recycling and to form positive attitudes towards sustainability in Thailand.

“Green Roof Project for Friends in Need (of “PA”) Volunteers Foundation”, Thai Red Cross, helps people affected by natural disasters nationwide. The Green Roof project is a great example of how everyone can contribute to this important cause and help our neighbours who are going through difficult times. It is a communal effort — by collecting used beverage cartons for recycling each and every Thai can make a change in someone’s life. Participation in this initiative is an expression of solidarity and responsibility.” said Prof. Tongthong Chantarangsu, Vice President, Princess Pa Foundation, Thai Red Cross.

“Tetra Pak is excited to continue the ‘Green Roof Project for Friends in Need (of “PA”) Volunteers Foundation. This is our 9th year running the project and we are honoured to be a part of this great initiative,” said Mr. Bert Jan Post, Managing Director, Tetra Pak (Thailand) Limited. “Our collective efforts helped to recycle almost 200 million used cartons, into more than 60,000 roof sheets that helped thousands of people in need. We also organise educational activities, road shows, workshops, get-togethers and other activities where we encourage Thai people to take part in environmental protection and supporting communities in distress. This project was received with great enthusiasm by the public. Besides our project partners, we want to thank everyone who participated, and in particular – our customers for sending used cartons and for encouraging their employees and consumers to support the Green Roof project.”

“The Green Roof project for Friends in Need (of “PA”) Volunteers Foundation is one of the most successful initiatives which we have participated in,” said Mrs.Vipada Duangratana Deputy Chief Executive Officer Big C Supercenter Public Co.,LTD.We are extremely proud to remain a permanent partner in this project, providing drop off points for used cartons in our outlets all over Thailand. This year we aimed to collect 30 million used cartons and deliver them to our Distribution Center at Wang Noi, Ayuthaya province, to then be collected by Fiber Pattana. We feel that this project creates an important bond between us as retailers and our customers — it transforms our relationship from sellers and buyers into partners, where together with our customers we join forces to do something genuinely good and Big C Super Center will always be there for the Thai people at every stage of life because we are a Thai department store, and we are customer orientated.”

Mr. Thaninwat Pattanaveerakhun, News anchor of TV 360 Degree, added: “This campaign is not just about turning used cartons into roof sheets — it is about changing attitudes and mindsets, it is about creating new habits, raising awareness and responsibility.  Learning to dispose cartons correctly — ‘fold and flatten’ — is a simple thing, but we need to do more to make people learn this habit. TV 360 Degree is proud to promote this project both online and offline, featuring it in various programmes, including Love Earth station, KidSai Thailand, etc.”
