The St. Regis Bankgok Transports Guests To Wonderland With Whimsical New Afternoon Tea “Chef Aey In Wonderland”

The St. Regis Bangkok presents the latest in its themed afternoon Tea series with an award-winning collection imagined by the hotel’s Executive Pastry Chef Anupong Nualchawee, also known as Chey Aey.

Some of the dessert items in this afternoon tea set were first created by Chef Aey for the inaugural Top Chef Thailand Dessert Edition competition in May 2020, at which he was awarded the First Runner Up. In the final round of reality competition cooking show, the chef impressed the panel of judges with his creativity and attention to detail. For “Chef Aey in Wonderland”, the namesake chef draws inspiration from Alice in Wonderland, reimagined with a selection of sweet and savory delights.

“As a child, Alice in Wonderland’s fantastical aesthetics sparked my imagination. It is also one of the few movies with Tea Time as a key feature, which is particularly fitting for the latest Afternoon Tea experience at The St. Regis Bangkok,” said Executive Pastry Chef Anupong Nualchawee.

Guests familiar with the movie will find references from his favorite childhood film, with dessert items including “Once Upon a Time” (caramel mousse, pineapple and mint), inspired by the white rabbit’s clock; “Magic Mushroom” (Tanariva chocolate, flourless sponge, passion fruit), inspired by the mushroom the caterpillar was sitting on when Alice first meets him; and “The Crown” (Champagne chocolate bon bon), inspired by the film’s White Queen and the Red Queen. The curious dessert that Alice eats to return to her normal size is also recreated as the “Eat Me! Cake” (coffee financier, almond macaron, orange Sunkist).

All items in the afternoon tea menu are exquisitely designed to look like dessert, including the savory items, such as Foie Gras and Berries Lollipop; Wasabi Macaron with Sea Urchin Cream; and Artichoke and Spinach Cream Topped with Black Olive Crumble and Poached Baby Carrot. Chef Aey pays homage to movie time’s favorite snacks and his vibrant memories of Alice in Wonderland with Popcorn Scones and Chocolate Bubblegum Scones which infuse the quintessential afternoon tea pastry with a whimsical twist.

A selection of themed drinks has also been created to complement the afternoon tea, including a gin-based Wonderland Tea Party served in a teacup, The White Queen vodka cocktail presented in an elegant coupe glass, and a Whitley Rhubarb & Ginger gin-infused Drink Me! cocktail poured from a vial.

The “Chef Aey in Wonderland” afternoon tea experience is priced at THB 1,600++ per set including tea or coffee for two persons.  Themed cocktails are priced at THB 375++ per glass. The afternoon tea is presented during 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM from 12 August – 31 October 2020 at The St. Regis Bar on the 12th floor of The St. Regis Bangkok.
