The world needs a new paradigm for global tourism development

China Outbound Tourism Seminar discusses how the biggest international tourism source market can show the way

Hamburg, July 29th, 2020. A new book by Wolfgang Georg Arlt, the CEO of COTRI China Outbound Tourism Research Institute, sets out to develop a new paradigm for international tourism, especially with respect to the way to develop the Chinese outbound tourism market.

The book Welcoming the New Chinese Outbound Tourists. Guest relationships with Chinese visitors in the 2020s will be published on August 4th, 2020 as an eBook by COTRI. To celebrate the launch of the publication, an online seminar is organised from 10:00 – 13:00 h Berlin time (16:00 – 19:00 h Beijing time).

Chinese and non-Chinese experts will discuss in two panels what has changed in the demand of the post-virus travellers from China and How to use the new paradigm for successful business with the post-virus customers from China?

The panellists of the seminar on August 4th will include Mr. Xu Jing, who for many years acted as director of the Asia-Pacific department of UNWTO, Prof. Kaye Chon, Dean of SHTM, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, but also practitioners like Mr. Roger Qiu, the Director International Markets of ValueRetail, Ms. Rebekka Baer, Head of Business Development Planet, Mr. Gazi Haxhia, CEO of Landways International and others.

The need for a paradigm shift has been seen long before CoViD-19 crippled the global tourism industry in 2020. The very success of international tourism, with five times the number of trips in 2019 compared to the year 1980, has made a mockery of the idea of hospitality and has run a juggernaut over local nature, local culture, diversity and serendipity. Gigantic cruise ships, all-inclusive resorts, overcrowded beaches and disneyfied tourist cities are examples of forms of tourism organisation which actually prevent meaningful guest-host encounters.

Key elements of the new paradigm are the concepts of TRUST, SATISFACTION and EMBEDDEDNESS. This is especially the case for the Chinese outbound market, which was and will again be responsible for one out of eight international trips. Post-CoViD-19 Chinese travellers will choose their outbound destinations and activities more than ever according to their feeling of being truly welcome and of getting services and experiences tailor-made for their special interests, their families, and their cultural background.

Participation is free of charge, registration on the website https://buzz.travel/china-outbound-tourism-seminar/

Three copies of the eBook will be given away in a lucky draw among all participants.

The seminar is organised by BUZZ.Travel Community and COTRI China Outbound Tourism Research Institute with the support of Planet and the Shanghai World Travel Fair 2021
