Transport Deputy Minister Presides Over Opening of THAI Royal Orchid Lounge in Phuket

Mr. Thaworn Senneam, Deputy Minister of Transport, presided over the opening of the Thai Airways International Public Company Limited’s (THAI) new Royal Orchid Lounge at Phuket International Airport. The interior of this lounge is a mix of the local Sino-Portuguese style of Phuket and THAI’s corporate identity. Mr. Pakkapong Tawipat, Phuket Governor, Mr. Jua Rachasri, Assistant Secretary, Ministry of Transport, Pilot Officer Thanee Chuangchoo, General Manager, Phuket International Airport, Mr. Wiwat Piyawiroj, THAI Executive Vice President, Commercial, Mrs. Manusnunt Sitthijirasin, THAI Managing Director, Ground Customer Services, THAI Management, and guests also attended the ceremony at the Royal Orchid Lounge, Second Floor, Domestic Passenger Terminal, Phuket International Airport.

Mr. Thaworn Senneam, Deputy Minister of Transport, said that Phuket, Andaman’s pearl, is the globally acclaimed tourist destination which attracts both Thais and foreigners. Phuket attracts 13 million visitors per year with the potential to continually increase. On behalf of the Ministry, he is proud that THAI, the national flag carrier, is the primary airline that transports the most tourists to destinations in Thailand and particularly Phuket, which is an important domestic destination that THAI continues to develop. THAI introduced the new Royal Orchid Lounge, complete with local Phuket interior décor that reflects the local identity. THAI has increased services for premium passengers, in order to accommodate more tourists flying into Phuket International Airport, continually increase customer satisfaction, support the Government’s tourism policies, and boost the national economy.

Mr. Wiwat Piyawiroj, THAI Executive Vice President, Commercial, said that THAI is committed to continually improve passenger services at every touch point. The new Royal Orchid Lounge on the Second Floor of Domestic Passenger Terminal, Phuket International Airport, is outstanding for its convenience, international standard services, and its interior. THAI designed and decorated this lounge by combining its identity with Phuket’s Sino-Portuguese architecture to provide passengers with THAI services in a local Phuket atmosphere. Also, THAI chose energy saving and environmental friendly electrical appliances, such as LED light bulbs that will consume less energy and help decrease national energy consumption.

This passenger lounge covers an area of 185 square meters with 74 seats complete with dining chairs, private seats, and two VIP rooms. Free Wi-Fi, high speed internet, USB chargers for every seat, and universal adapters are available. The lounge is open daily from 05.00-22.00 hours for passengers traveling in THAI Royal Silk Class, THAI Royal Orchid Plus (ROP) Gold cardholders, THAI Smile’s Smile Plus passengers, and Star Alliance Gold cardholders. Passengers can enjoy the choice of buffet and à la carte meals prepared by THAI Catering chefs, salad bar, vegetarian food, popular Phuket dishes and desserts, such as Khanom Jin Namya Pla, Mee Pad Hokkian, Khao Pad Numprik Koong Seab, Tao Soh, and Nah Taek are served at this lounge. Seasonal fruits, THAI Catering homemade ice cream, Illy Coffee, various types of teas and juices are also available.

THAI hopes that the new Royal Orchid Lounge at Phuket International Airport will impress passengers who enjoy the local food cultural experience and its facilities that make the pre-flight experience satisfying, complementing Phuket as the globally acclaimed tourist destination.
