Women Lead Travel Revolution: New Global Heights!

World Travel & Tourism Council - logoIn a constantly evolving world, the Travel and tourism sector emerges as a beacon of progress, with women at its helm, steering it towards unprecedented growth and inclusivity. As we commemorate International Women’s Day, the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) shines a spotlight on the indomitable spirit of women who are not just participating but significantly contributing to and shaping the future of the global Travel and Tourism industry.

With a workforce comprising nearly 40% women, the sector not only champions gender diversity but also mirrors the societal shifts toward equality and empowerment. This notable figure represents a growth spurt from 2010 to 2019, during which female employment in the industry surged by 24%, from 38.6 million to an impressive 47.8 million. This increase is not just a number but a testament to the sector’s commitment to providing opportunities for women to thrive.

The hospitality industry, in particular, stands out for its reliance on the talents and skills of women. In 2019, women accounted for over half (52%) of all female employment within Travel and tourism. This statistic underscores the critical role women play in ensuring the success and vibrancy of this segment.

Julia Simpson, President and CEO of WTTC, eloquently captures the essence of women’s contributions, stating, “Women in Travel & Tourism play a vital role. We are proud that our sector is one of the largest employers of women in the world. As our sector continues to grow, women have a key role to play; we have the opportunity to make Travel & Tourism more resilient and inclusive. Putting women at the heart of Travel & Tourism will be critical to securing a sustainable future for the sector.”

This statement acknowledges the present achievements and sets a vision for a future where women’s involvement is integral to the industry’s resilience and sustainability. The WTTC’s findings further highlight that in regions such as the Americas, women’s participation in the Travel & Tourism sector surpasses their representation in the workforce at large, indicating the sector’s potential as a catalyst for gender inclusivity and empowerment globally.

As we celebrate the achievements and potential of women in Travel & Tourism, it’s clear that their impact goes beyond mere numbers. They are at the forefront of driving change, championing sustainability, and fostering a more inclusive and equitable world through their roles in this dynamic sector.

The WTTC’s commitment to providing high-wage jobs, promoting gender equality, encouraging entrepreneurship through SMEs, and generating high-level opportunities for women in large corporations further solidifies the Travel & Tourism industry as a key player in global efforts toward gender parity and economic empowerment.

In conclusion, as we navigate the complexities of the modern world, the Travel & Tourism industry, with women at its core, stands as a shining example of progress, resilience, and hope for a more inclusive and sustainable future. Their journey is not just about travel; it’s about paving the way for future generations, ensuring that every path leads to empowerment, equality, and prosperity.
