Yamazato Celebrates Traditional Girls’ Festival

Held on 3 March each year, Hinamatsuri – or Girl’s Festival – is a centuries old Japanese tradition in which families honour their young women. During the festivities dolls known as Hina dolls are put on display and girls hold parties with their friends at which traditional foods such as Hina Sushi, Sakura sea bream, spring herring, Sakura shrimp and Sakura Mochi or a traditional dessert of rice cakes filled with sweet bean paste are eaten.

To mark the festival, The Okura Prestige Bangkok’s MICHELIN Plate Japanese restaurant Yamazato is serving special Gozen lunch platters and a multi-course Kaiseki dinner menu. The Gozen lunch platters include dishes such as three-coloured sesame tofu, crab meat and broad beans with yuzu miso, and delicious Hina sushi, which includes vinegar rice topped with conger eel, shrimp, shrimp oboro, lotus root, broad bean, carrot, shiitake mushroom, dried gourd shavings, egg omelet, and salmon roe.

The Kaiseki dinner menu also includes Hina sushi plus other dishes such as simmered bamboo shoot, eggplant, spring herring and udo of mountain vegetable; and grilled Spanish mackerel and beef garnished with yuzu miso dressing. The meal is rounded off with Sakura mochi rice cakes filled with sweet bean paste and wrapped in a pickled cherry leaf.

The Girls’ Festival at Yamazato is celebrated from 1 – 22 March 2020, lunch 11:30 – 14:30, dinner: 18:00 – 22:30, priced at 1,500++ Baht for Gozen lunch and 4,700++ Baht for Kaiseki dinner.

Yamazato Restaurant is located on the 24th floor of The Okura Prestige Bangkok. For information and reservations, please contact 02 687 9000 or email yamazato@okurabangkok.com or book on our website www.okurabangkok.com
