Emirates Expands Luxury Retrofit, Elevates Global Travel Experience

Emirates B777Emirates has announced an ambitious expansion of its cabin refurbishment program, committing to a comprehensive upgrade of an additional 71 aircraft, encompassing the Airbus A380s and Boeing 777s. This move will raise the total to 191 aircraft receiving the airline’s signature luxury enhancements.

Initially targeting 120 aircraft, the expanded initiative underscores Emirates’ commitment to superior passenger experiences, according to Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline. “Our increased investment reflects our unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction, featuring state-of-the-art cabin products and a modern aesthetic across our fleet,” Clark stated.

The expansion includes 43 A380s and 28 B777s, each set to receive next-generation seating and stylish cabin finishes in a fresh, contemporary colour palette. So far, 22 A380s have been upgraded, and starting in July, the first Boeing 777 will enter refurbishment, with each aircraft scheduled for a two-week overhaul.

Significantly, the retrofit extends to all cabin classes. First Class will see the introduction of revitalized suites, while Business Class will debut new seats arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration, enhancing privacy and accessibility. Moreover, the new Premium Economy class, comprising 24 seats, offers more high-end choices for travellers.

This initiative also adjusts seating capacity in the B777s to accommodate the new Premium Economy section, resulting in 332 seats spread across four classes: eight in First Class, 40 in Business, and 260 in Economy, with 50 Economy seats removed to make space.

All retrofitting work is managed in-house at Emirates’ Engineering Centre, employing over 250 personnel and supported by 31 major partners. The comprehensive project involves internal resources and specialized workshops both onsite and offsite to ensure seamless execution.

Upon completion, Emirates will have installed 8,104 Premium Economy, 1,894 updated First Class, 11,182 revamped Business Class, and 21,814 refreshed Economy Class seats.

The refurbished A380s currently service major global cities, including New York, London, and Sydney, with plans to introduce the upgraded B777s to more destinations by the end of summer. By February 2025, the airline aims to offer Premium Economy in 42 cities, further expanding with the addition of A350s to the fleet in September.

This strategic enhancement solidifies Emirates’ position as a luxury air travel leader and significantly elevates the global travel experience, promising unparalleled comfort and style for its international clientele.
