Great Wall Motor Shares Vision and Provides HAVAL H6 to Support Third APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting and Related Meetings in Chiang Mai

Great Wall Motor (GWM) has shared its vision in promoting trade and investment that minimize the adverse effects on the environment while providing ten All New HAVAL H6 Hybrid SUVs to accommodate delegates attending the Third APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting and Related Meetings (SOM3) from August 16 to 31, 2022, in Chiang Mai province.

This is a further step to accomplishing the company’s mission to become the xEV leader committed to elevating Thailand’s image on the global stage, while offering quality products packed with cutting-edge and eco-friendly technology to complete the country’s EV ecosystem and transform Thailand’s automotive industry into a regional EV hub.

At the APEC Customs Business Dialogue (ACBD) 2022, which was organized under the topic of ‘Customs and Green Economy: Enhancing Economic Development and Environmental Sustainability’, GWM – as the mobility and logistics partner of APEC 2022 – led by Michael Chong, General Manager of Great Wall Motor (Thailand), was invited to share its vision of increasing investment in green industries to lead the mobility change alongside the Customs Department, while also noting that many counties are accelerating the pace of institutional and technological innovation, promoting the transformation and upgrading their economic, energy and industrial structures to achieve sustainable economies, and social and environmental development.

Michael Chong, General Manager of Great Wall Motor (Thailand), said: “As a global intelligent technology company, GWM has been engaged in the research, development, production and sale of vehicles, power technologies and components for more than 30 years, with a cumulative global sales volume of more than 11 million vehicles and products sold to more than 60 countries and regions, 13 full-process production bases, and R&D centers in ten regions across seven countries. The company has always adhered to global ecological design and development of products, integrated with low-carbon and sustainability concepts in the whole life-cycle of products. We have also built a global low-carbon automobile industry chain, continued to promote investment in new energy vehicles, clean energy technologies and other green industry while gradually realizing the transition to clean energy vehicle usage by consistently offering smart EV products to consumers. New energy vehicles accounted for nearly 11% of GWM’s annual sales in 2021, up 137% year-on-year. We aim to achieve 80% sales of new energy vehicles by 2025.”

“GWM is increasing its R&D investment in clean energy technology. In 2021, We invested nearly 10 billion yuan in R & D, and the accumulated R & D investment will reach 100 billion yuan by 2025. Combining such investment with iterative updates of hybrid DHT technology, high-efficiency engines and transmissions, fuel cell engines and other technologies, we believe this can achieve lower vehicle energy consumption and the technological foundation for future green travel reform. In Thailand, GWM is committed to becoming the leader of new energy vehicles. We plan to have localized operations and investment for 100% of vehicles and parts, and build green cars, green factories, and green mobility. Meanwhile, we have also reached strategic cooperation with the Tourism Authority of Thailand in promoting sustainable development of Thailand’s society, economy and environment. Since the beginning of business operations in Thailand, GWM has invested 12 billion baht, creating 3,000 jobs. Additionally, we plan to invest 22.6 billion baht in total,” added Chong.

GWM has provided ten All New HAVAL H6 Hybrid SUVs to facilitate the travel of APEC delegates, with our unrivaled innovations in comfort, entertainment and safety delivering an impressive ride experience for the delegates throughout APEC 2022 Thailand from July 20 to December 31, 2022. Two major conferences have been scheduled to take place in Thailand: 1. The 3rd APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM3) and Related Meetings, being held in Chiang Mai province from August 16 to 31, 2022; and 2. APEC Economic Leaders’ Week (AELW), to be held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre, Bangkok from November 14 to 19, 2022. Around 10,000 delegates from 21 APEC economies are expected. Moving forward from the health and economic crises, APEC 2022 Thailand will promote long-term growth that is resilient, inclusive, balanced, and sustainable. APEC will leverage its traditional strengths to address the current environmental challenges, which have unbalanced the region, worsened inherent inequality, and made economies vulnerable to shock.

GWM, as the ‘Global Intelligent Technology Company’, is committed to growing alongside consumers, business partners, and society to contribute to the sustainable growth of Thailand’s electric vehicle industry and economy. GWM focuses on consumers’ voices to further develop products and services filled with cutting-edge technologies that are safe and friendly to the environment, all while utilizing its user-centric approach to deliver exceptional experiences that not only meet consumer needs but also elevate the country as well as ASEAN’s automotive industry as a whole.
