NCSA and Huawei host ‘Thailand Cyber Thought Leaders 2023’ seminar

AVM Amorn Chomchey explained during the opening speech that technological advances such as 5G high-speed wireless communication, Blockchain, the Internet of Things, cloud computing and the metaverse are transforming the whole world into the digital era. Digital technology has significantly changed people’s lives and is becoming part of every aspect of our lifestyles. This transformation means that the value of the digital economy is growing at an exponential rate. However, one inevitable challenge that comes with technological innovation is that cyber security threats are evolving at a rapid pace while causing major damage to society. In many countries around the world, we have seen endless cyber security attacks affect society in many ways including people’s lives and communities, as well as economic and political stability. While in Thailand, cyberattacks continue to be on the rise and getting more severe, with increasing technology, new attack patterns are also becoming more sophisticated and may cause major damage to national security, society, and the economy now and in the future.

Following the increase in cyber security attacks, the National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) joined hands with Huawei in hosting the seminar ‘Thailand Cyber Thought Leaders 2023’ to emphasize the importance of cyber security among organizations. As cyber security is one of its top priorities, Huawei has been working tirelessly with all sectors to boost its cyber security efforts. In addition, the NCSA and Huawei have formed a strategic collaboration to drive various projects that build a solid foundation for cyber security and data protection, empowering entrepreneurs and organizations to tackle potential future cyber security threats. In ‘Thailand Cyber Thought Leaders 2023’, guest speakers – experts in the field of cyber security such as Dr. Supakorn Siddhichai, Senior Deputy Director of Special Projects and the Center for Digital Technology and Innovation Development Unit; Dr. Siwaruk Siwamogsatham, Secretary-General of the Personal Data Protection Committee; Mr. Kumpol Sontanarat, President of the Thailand Data Protection Officer Association; Dr. Rom Hiranprueck, Member of the Committee; Mr. Narinrit Prem-apiwathanokul, Vice President of the Thailand Information Security Association (TISA); and Mr. Surachai Chatchalermpun, Country Cyber Security and Privacy, Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd., joined the panel discussion ‘Think Tank for Vision and Mission Thailand Cyber Security and CII’. In addition, Professor Prinya Hom-anek, cyber security member of the NCSA and the Personal Data Protection Commission also participated in the seminar.

Dr. Passakon Prathombutr, Deputy Director of Special Projects and the Center for Digital Technology and Innovation Development Unit, Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa), and Mr. Nan Jianfeng, Huawei Senior Cyber Security and Privacy Protection Expert gave new perspectives on various topics to inspire organization leaders and empower them to help drive organizational cyber security capability to global standards. The participants also brainstormed ideas to promote cyber security awareness, which will serve as strategic guidelines for national policy and framework development while helping each organization tackle cyber threats with the same standards. Additionally, this will raise awareness of cyber security within organizations and expand across all sectors in society, hoping that everyone will be part of the country’s policy and framework development and continue to support national cyber security efforts. A total of 55 senior executives from 40 government agencies and organizations working in the field of Critical Information Infrastructure (CII) participated in the seminar, such as the Royal Thai Police, Office of the Permanent Secretary – Ministry of Public Health, Office of the Permanent Secretary – Ministry of Energy, Office of the Permanent Secretary – Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, Office of the Permanent Secretary – Ministry of Commerce, Office of the Attorney General, Royal Office, Department of Lands, Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters, Royal Thai Army, Royal Thai Navy, Thai Meteorological Department, Port Authority of Thailand, Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, Provincial Electricity Authority, Mahidol University, National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC), Government Savings Bank, True Corporation plc, and Triple T Broadband plc.
