S Hotels & Resorts Clinches Green Certification Again

Mr. Michael Marshall, CEO of S Hotels and Resorts. In a world increasingly attuned to the necessities of environmental stewardship and sustainable development, S Hotels & Resorts PCL, a subsidiary of Singha Estate PCL, has again distinguished itself as a pioneer in the global hospitality industry. For the second consecutive year, the company has secured the prestigious Green Globe™ certification for its esteemed properties in Thailand and the Maldives, underscoring its unwavering commitment to sustainability and environmental conservation.

The Green Globe™ certification, recognized globally as the gold standard for sustainable practice within the travel and tourism sector, was awarded to several S Hotels & Resorts properties, including SAii Phi Phi Island Village, SAii Laguna Phuket, and Santiburi Koh Samui in Thailand, as well as the transformative CROSSROADS Maldives project. This accolade reaffirms the company’s dedication to sustainable operations and highlights its role as a leader in promoting eco-friendly tourism.

At the heart of S Hotels & Resorts’ strategy is a bold, three-pronged approach designed to achieve significant environmental milestones by 2030. These goals include reaching carbon neutrality, enhancing biodiversity by 30%, and enriching the guest experience through initiatives such as establishing Marine Discovery Centres. These centres are critical in educating guests and fostering appreciation for marine biodiversity, including initiatives like shark conservation and coral propagation.

A cornerstone project underpinning these sustainability goals is the “Pleuk Pa Duay Plai New” initiative, a collaborative effort with Singha Estate to expand green conservation areas in northern Thailand’s Chiang Rai province. For every square metre of land developed, an equivalent area is reforested, leading to the conservation of 634 acres and the planting of over 6,200 trees, including native species crucial for local ecosystems.

Moreover, S Hotels & Resorts has integrated sustainability into daily operations and guest interactions. The properties offer educational nature trails, support local economies through monthly street markets in the Maldives, and promote local culture and products through farm-to-table dining experiences. These efforts not only enhance the guest experience but also contribute to the economic and environmental well-being of the local communities.

In a statement, Mr Michael Marshall, CEO of S Hotels & Resorts, expressed pride in the company’s achievements and ongoing commitment to sustainability: “Sustainable development is embedded in the core of our business. We are thrilled that our efforts are being recognized with the Green Globe™ certification for the second year. This reflects our team’s hard work and dedication and aligns with our mission to lead by example in reducing our environmental impact and creating positive outcomes for society.”

As S Hotels & Resorts looks to the future, the company is focused on reducing its carbon footprint by 5% annually through 2024. Initiatives include expanding solar panels across its properties, which are expected to reduce carbon emissions by up to 20%.

This ongoing commitment to sustainability positions S Hotels & Resorts as a leader in eco-conscious tourism and sets a benchmark for the industry, illustrating how commercial success and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.
