AirAsia Thailand (FD) today celebrated its inaugural direct flight from Bangkok (Don Mueang) to Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka, marked with a welcoming ceremony at Don Mueang International Airport.
Operating four times a week every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, the popular resumed route received an overwhelming response from both Thai and international travelers.
Sri Lanka is a major destination for Buddhist faithful from across the globe as it is home to numerous well-known religious locations, many registered as World Heritage Sites, best known of which is the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in the city of Kandy. Other attractions include the forest-enveloped Sigiriya, often referred to as the Machu Picchu of Asia due to its remote location.
For other leisure seekers, the country offers pristine nature experiences including along the train route from Kandy to Ella, considered one of the most scenic in the world as it carves through valleys and tea fields. Tourists are also invited to view the Ceylon tea cultivation process by visiting the fields of Nuwara Eliya, to cruise alongside dolphins or even possibly see whales between November and April of each year in the waters off Mirissa in the south, or ride a jeep on a safari through Yala National Park.

Marking the resumption of the route post-pandemic, AirAsia is offering a promotional fare for flights from Bangkok (Don Mueang) to Colombo, Sri Lanka from only 2,990 THB one way. Tickets are available for booking now until 16 July 2023, for travel from 9 July to 28 October 2023 via the airasia Superapp.
