Phuket hotels ready to welcome foreign visitors

Hotels certified by the Ministry of Public Health in Phuket are now ready to welcome international visitors holding a Special Tourist Visa. They are hopeful this limited reopening of the country will mark the beginning of a tourism business recovery in Phuket.

Our reporters have visited a hotel in Phuket certified by the Ministry of Public Health as an Alternative Local Quarantine facility, enabling the hotel to accommodate international visitors holding a Special Tourist Visa who are required to spend their first 14 days after arrival in quarantine.

The hotel has made all its preparations with safety as number one priority, with the guest handling protocol strictly in compliance with the Ministry of Public Health’s measures, from picking up guests at the airport and traveling to the hotel, the health screening protocol, and enhanced security measures for guests throughout their stay.

A hotel executive said the hotel had opted to become an Alternative Local Quarantine facility, as the hotel believes the quarantine and isolation processes currently implemented are strict and orderly, without any attempts to escape confinement, or reports of staff members getting infected.

He said joining the quarantine facility program will allow the hotel to make adjustments and become better prepared to welcome visitors in the next stage, with justified confidence in health and safety measures after thorough inspections by the provincial public health office.

There are currently eight hotels in Phuket certified as Alternative Local Quarantine facilities by Phuket Provincial Public Health Office, with some 1,200 rooms available.
